Terms of Service

Last updated

This is a scaffold, built from the same words used everywhere else this business describes itself. Sections marked [REVIEW WITH COUNSEL] are open questions for a lawyer, not finished terms — do not rely on them as legal advice.

The Service

The platform analyses the camera feeds the customer selects and automatically identifies the events they configure. It sends notifications to the users they designate. The customer is solely responsible for reviewing notifications and determining whether any response is necessary.

That last sentence decides where the decision sits, and it applies to everything below it. In these Terms, "the Service" means exactly what the paragraph above describes — nothing more is implied by any other word on this site.

What it is not

Each of these is a separate service with its own licensing regime. The Service is not any of them, regardless of what any other part of this site or any sales conversation might seem to imply:

  • Not central-station monitoring.
  • Detection of security events is not guaranteed.
  • We do not dispatch emergency services.
  • We do not provide guards or security personnel.
  • We do not continuously observe customer cameras.
  • The customer determines what an alert means and what action to take.

Your responsibilities

  • Lawful use of your cameras. You are responsible for having the authority to record at every location you connect to the Service, and for using it in a way that is lawful where the camera is installed.
  • Notice. You are responsible for any signage, consent, or other notice that local law requires when recording video on your property.
  • Deciding on a response. The Service notifies you; you decide what an alert means and what, if anything, to do about it. We do not make that decision and are not part of carrying it out.

Subscription, trial, and billing

Sentinel is sold as a monthly subscription, billed through Stripe. Card entry happens on Stripe's own page; we never see or store your card number.

  • AI Detection — $99/month, up to 8 cameras. One site, the cameras that matter.
  • AI Detection Pro — $249/month, up to 25 cameras. A full yard, dock or lot.
  • AI Detection Pro Plus — $599/month, up to 100 cameras. Several sites, or one large one.

New subscriptions on a published tier include a 14-day trial. A card is required to start the trial, and the subscription converts to a paid plan automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel first.

Applicable sales tax is calculated and added at checkout; the amount shown at checkout is what you pay.

You can cancel, change plans, or update payment details at any time from the billing page in your account, which opens Stripe's hosted customer portal.

Acceptable use

Using the Service also means agreeing to our Acceptable Use Policy, which covers what the Service may and may not be used for.

No guarantee of detection

The Service uses automated detection, and automated detection can miss events or flag ones that turn out not to matter. We do not guarantee that any particular event will be detected, or that a notification will always arrive. The Service is a tool that helps you review what happened at your property faster — it does not replace your own judgment about what to do next.

Limitation of liability

[REVIEW WITH COUNSEL]

Placeholder only. A finished clause here needs to say, precisely: what categories of damages are excluded, what (if any) cap applies to direct damages, and what carve-outs exist (for example, for a party's own gross negligence or willful misconduct, where such carve-outs are required by law).

Open question: Standard SaaS limitation-of-liability language (damages cap, exclusion of consequential/incidental damages, carve-outs) needs to be drafted for a product whose alerts relate to security events on a customer's property — the stakes and the plausible claims are different from ordinary software.

Termination

You can cancel at any time from the billing page in your account; access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. We may suspend or terminate an account that misuses the Service, including in ways described in the Acceptable Use Policy.

[REVIEW WITH COUNSEL]

Placeholder only. The exact data-deletion timeline after cancellation or termination — how long data is kept before it is deleted, and whether a customer can request an earlier deletion or an export first — is not yet settled.

Open question: How long snapshot/clip and account data is retained after cancellation or termination before deletion, and whether that timeline should be stated in these Terms, the Privacy Policy, or both.

Governing law

[REVIEW WITH COUNSEL]

Placeholder only. Sentinel Patrol LLC is formed in Texas, USA, which is the presumptive starting point for a governing-law clause, but the final language — venue, dispute-resolution mechanism, and any arbitration or class-action-waiver provisions — needs counsel.

Open question: Choice of governing law and venue, and whether an arbitration clause or jury-trial waiver should be included, given the entity is formed in Texas but customers may be located elsewhere.

Changes to these terms

If we change these Terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. For a material change, we will also notify account admins by email.
